Compare board sizes.

Test the paper behind the window before choosing a frame.

How to measure

Example measurements, not a recommended overlap. Replace them with your own. Use decimals or fractions, such as 8 1/2.

Paper size

The physical sheet, edge to edge—not just the printed image.

Coverage at each paper edge

How much paper the mat hides. This is not the visible mat border.

Candidate board sizes

Up to 12. These are editable examples, not verified stock sizes.

Use the form to calculate a plan.

Two-dimensional geometry only. Confirm cutting, fit and mounting with your framer. Drawings are schematic, not 1:1 cutting templates.

Compare geometry, then confirm the frame.

Type the actual candidate board dimensions you have measured or obtained from the supplier. Each row uses a centered window with your chosen paper coverage. Set a minimum visible border as your own preference. The tool separates “paper fits in the board” from “meets your border preference.” Neither establishes a manufactured fit.

Examples are not stock recommendations.

An 8 × 10 in board can geometrically contain an 8 × 10 sheet in this model, but with 1/8 in coverage its visible borders are only 1/8 in. It falls below a 1 in border preference. An 11 × 14 board gives 1.625 in side borders and 2.125 in top/bottom borders for the same window.

Rotated rows swap board width and height; the label identifies that choice. Check the actual frame’s hardware and intended artwork orientation separately. Invalid lines stay visible as row errors, and more than 12 lines must be reduced before comparison.

Select a valid row to open its full planner worksheet. Editing a candidate, unit or preference invalidates old selection links. Verify frame depth, clearance, materials and squareness before buying; see reusing an existing frame.

What the tools do not decide.

They do not choose a suitable coverage amount, mounting method, material, minimum cuttable border, bevel definition, practical clearance or stack depth. Confirm those with the supplier for the actual object. A zero-coverage example is not a securing method. For valuable or sensitive originals, seek appropriate professional advice.

Measurements stay in this browser’s page memory. There is no upload, account, saved project or analytics script. Download a note before leaving if you need a record. Links between tools carry measurements in a URL fragment; no cloud project is created.
